Charles Mozley was born in 1914, and died in 1991. A prolific English artist, illustrator, and graphic designer; he designed over 300 book jackets and illustrated around 40 adult and children's books. His talent for drawing was recognized at an early age, and he attended Sheffield School of Art. There he studied painting and drawing, and acquired a sound knowledge of the processes of what was then called commercial art. Subsequently he won a national scholarship and moved to the Royal College of Art in London in 1934. In his early career Charles illustrated for Shell Oil and London Transport. Later he designed posters, programmes, and brochures for the performing arts, and produced illustrations for the wine trade.
