Willard E. Hawkins (born 1887, died 1970) was the author of a dozen short stories in the early 1940's and 1950's, including Look to the Stars, Scratch One Asteroid, and The Dwindling Sphere.
J. G. Ballard -
James Graham Ballard (born November 15th, 1930, died April 19th, 2009) was an English author. Born in Shanghai, he was interned by the Japanese after their invasion of China. His novel Empire of the Sun (which was made into a Steven Spielberg movie of the same name in 1987) was based on these boyhood experiences. After the war he lived in Canada, where he discovered Science Fiction. Known as an author of dystopian fiction, his work forebears the cyberpunk movement, and has provided lyrical imagery for several British post-punk music groups.
